Poetry: “Behind Bars”

Note: I have never been in trouble with the law. I imagined what it is like to be incarcerated from movies I have seen and television programs.

Lawyers & judges & weights in the yard

Boredom & violence & long games of cards

Riots & tear gas & corruptible guards

Unhealthy repasts & meals cooked in lard

TVs & toilets & shanks in the neck

“Noone saw nothing” just shuffle the deck

Gangs & youth killers & lifers resigned

To a life behind bars, a world in a bind.
