Poetry: “In Debt”

One payment too few

You meant to send

With interest accrued

On your memory you cannot depend

You’re feeling blue

A lawyer’s hired to defend

This day you rue

Because now you’re screwed

To get out of debt

You meant to pay rent

Please don’t gamble or bet

But the money’s been spent

Now you’re in debt

And you must live in a tent

Now you must fret

Wondering where it all went

You get collection calls

Imagine how it must feel

As cold rain falls

Where will you get your next meal?

You’ve lost it all

Maybe you can make a deal

Now all you can do is bawl

With the Devil and start to steal

Some would say in life I have failed

At least I know what is real

I have never spent a day in jail.
